All Kinds Of Drum Lamp Shades

If there is a room in your home that doesn't get much light, you can use drum lamp shades to brighten it up. Maybe this particular room doesn't get much natural sunlight and looks a bit gloomy. The key to choosing the right lamp shade for lightening up a room is in its shape. Drum lamp shades are shaped just like you think they would be, like a drum. This unique shape allows light to travel towards the lower and upper parts of the room. This way one lamp will provide much more light than several with different types of lamp shades.

You wouldn't believe how many different lamp shades there are out there. As I said in my previous post my girlfriend loves garage sales and flea markets. For some reason she is obsessed with collecting drum lamp shades. OK, time for round 2. Here are the next drum lamp shades in the "Jenna collection". She picked this one up in some flee market in northern New Jersey. It must be from the 70s.

This shade has a brown background and small flowers going up the outside of a vine. We had to change part of the shade that clips over the light bulb, it was much to big to fit any bulb I've ever seen.

This drum lamp shade has a very unique design. It has two layers connected by 4 small metal beams. This shade is made of thick tinted glass.

Jenna's Drum Lamp Shades Vol 1

This drum lamp shade is one of Jenna's favorites. She calls it the black and white butterfly. It reminds me of the Sin City movie.

I received this as a gift for my birthdays, I was thrilled as you might have guessed. It's a drum lamp shade made from what appears to be a movie about a donkey.

Last but not least for today, the unique lap shade below is actually one of my favorites. I'm not quite sure how to describe it. Believe it or not it is made of fabric and can be quite mesmerizing if stared at.

What Are Drum Lamp Shades

OK, so until I met my girlfriend, Jenna, I had no interest in lamp shades. Nor did I know that there were different kinds. For some reason, she loves drum lamp shades. The living room of her apartment might be the brightest room in the world. She has a total of 8 different lamps strewn about. She has desk lamps and tall floor lamps and the only thing that they have in common is they all have drum lamp shades.

What are drum lamp shades you ask? Well, it is just what it's name says it is. The shade that goes over the light bulb has a cylinder, drum-like shape to it. She has vintage, leopard print, polka dot, puppy and a whole lot of other designs.

Apparently, there are a lot of people out there that are drum lamp shade collectors. At first I thought it was a bit ridiculous, but who am I to judge. I collect baseball cards, so why not drum lamp shades. I must admit some of them are quite beautiful.

She travels all over the place searching for new pieces for her collection, anywhere from antique stores to flea markets. I remember one day last April, I was shocked to find out she spent over $150 on a lamp shade. I remember asking her if was made of solid gold.

In any event, I'm creating this blog for her. I plan to post some pictures of her rather large collection. Sort of like a museum to her unique art. A collection of Jenna's drum lamp shades. If any fellow lamp shade enthusiasts come across my blog, I hope you enjoy. It's all about drum lamp shades.
